We have a new definition of insanity! It’s called the Green New Deal. Its prescribed approach to future production and use of energy in our country, can only be characterized as a train wreck. Imagine the year 2040, or maybe 2050, when we will have spent untold trillions of dollars unsuccessfully trying to create a country largely dependent upon renewable sources of energy. Envision mountain passes, seashores, and the Great Plains – wind turbines as far as the eye can see; and in our deserts – solar panels the same. No more picturesque mountain views, unobstructed coastal sunrises and sunsets, or pristine desert vistas. There can be no doubt that the plan for our energy production in the Green New Deal would severely tarnish our beautiful land, but also the plan taken as a whole, would put our economy into a perpetual struggle for survival due to runaway spending and stifling debt.
As the greatest country on earth we have the wherewithal to do so much better, and we must! Why should we limit ourselves to what is currently on the horizon when there is so much to see beyond it? NewEnergy2040 proposes a bold strategy for America’s energy future that does just that. In a nutshell, the strategy leverages our current sources of energy (with common sense technological improvements) through a transition period to a time when we will reap the rewards of yet to be realized energy sources. We need an energy strategy that helps ensure America’s continued leadership position in the world, and results in a guaranteed and affordable supply of energy for generations, or even centuries, to come.
Some assert that the world is destined to cross the Rubicon in less than 10 years if we do not immediately curtail, and in the end, eliminate our use of fossil fuels as energy sources. Enough with the fear mongering and end of the world forecasts! Why is it fear mongering? Name one example in the last 50 years where a climate change zealot’s dire prediction has come to pass. Yes, we must not abuse the environment, which is something we can all agree to. However; common sense tells us that we must strive for and achieve a balance between environmental benefits and the economic health and vitality of our country (and ultimately the world). NewEnergy2040 not only subscribes to the responsible management of greenhouse gases, but also to a goal that we significantly reduce all pollutants derived from energy production. At the same time common sense urges us to employ reasonable and timely, but not reckless, solutions.
The “grand staircase” of NewEnergy2040 is the selection, development, and implementation of new energy sources that will be the granite upon which our energy future rests. This will require a national commitment and a renewal of America’s spirit of innovation and ingenuity. Adopting this initiative can renew these qualities in our people and it will require nothing less if we are to succeed. There is a much better way and we have the means to achieve it. What we need is a strategy and a plan – NewEnergy2040 – and a national will to get it done.
Welcome to NewEnergy2040!
